About Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that takes about 2 hours to accomplish under general anesthesia. The surgery is often scheduled on Thursday which allows for a weekend recovery period. Patients often are able to return to work on Monday -- if they have a desk job with no lifting. Call us for more information about getting a breast augmentation in Houston, TX.
There are two incision sites for the insertion of the implants that Dr. Kelly prefers:
- in the fold under the breast
- around the areola.
These sites afford the best surgical access which contributes to a successful outcome and minimizes the recovery period.
The implants come in two basic styles: there's a round one and one that is pear-shaped (anatomical). Dr. Kelly determines which shape will best match the individual's needs by determining how much existing breast tissue and loose skin they have. The Round implant is inserted above the muscle (supramammary), and the top of the anatomical implant is tucked under muscle (which hides the rippling in the implant and affords a more natural look) and behind the breast tissue for the best results. The size of the implant is determined by the patient's wants and a realistic evaluation of the patient's build so that the result will be proportionate.
Dr. Kelly does not use drains in the incisions; patients are wrapped in special surgical dressings instead. This dressing is removed on the first post-operative day.
